Chemical properties: red-brown powder. Soluble in water in green solution, adding hydrochloric acid will turn yellow-brown, then gradually fade, adding sodium hydroxide will almost all fade, precipitate dark purple. The melting point is 288℃ (decomposition), and the maximum absorption wavelength is 630 (422) nm. Half lethal dose (rat, via mouth)>2G/kG.

Purpose: Serous dye. Animal tissue staining. Contrast dyeing with hematoxylin or other nuclear dyes. In plant histology, cytoplasm and fibers are stained. Pollen tube CO-stained with acid fuchsin.

Storage: Sealed and dried.
