Chemical properties: red powder. It is an oil-soluble azo dye. It is soluble in benzene, ethanol (light yellow-red) and acetone. It is light blue-green in concentrated sulfuric acid and blue-purple precipitation occurs when diluted. Melting point 120℃. The maximum absorption wavelength is 518 (359) nm. There are also commodities referring to Sudan III.

Purpose: starch gel electrophoresis for lipid and fat staining. In microscopy, it is used as a fat stain.

Storage Conditions: Sealed, cool and dry.
